چکیده

Dielectric relaxation and thermal expansion spectroscopy were made for thin polystyrene films in order to measure the temperature Tα corresponding to the peak in the loss component of susceptibility due to the α-process and the α-relaxation time τ as functions of film thickness d. While the glass transition temperature Tg decreases with decreasing film thickness, Tα and τ were found to remain almost constant for d > dc and decrease drastically for d < dc for high temperatures. Here, dc is a critical thickness. Near the glass transition temperature, the thickness dependence of Tα and τ is more prominent. The relation between the fragility index and non-exponentiallity is discussed for thin films of polystyrene.

Polymer gate dielectric surface viscoelasticity modulates pentacene transistor performance.

Nanoscopically confined polymer films are known to exhibit substantially depressed glass transition temperatures (Lg's) as compared to the corresponding bulk materials. We report here that pentacene thin films grown on polymer gate dielectrics at temperatures well below their bulk Tg's exhibit distinctive and abrupt morphological and microstructural transitions and thin-film transistor (TFT) pe...

Glass Transition Reductions in Thin Freely-standing Polymer Films: a Scaling Analysis of Chain Confinement Effects

In this paper we present a new analysis of data on the reduced glass transitions observed in thin freely-standing films. The empirical analysis presented is highly suggestive of the existence of a mechanism of mobility in thin freely-standing films that is inhibited in the bulk and distinct from the usual cooperative motion near the glass transition temperature Tg. A tentative mechanism for Tg ...

Characterization of polymer-like thin films deposited on silicon and glass substrates using PECVD method

Polymer-like thin films have been deposited on glass and silicon substrates at temperatures in the range 300–673 K, by a plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) method using thiophene (C H S) as a precursor. A power with radio 4 4 frequency (13.56 MHz) was applied for the ignition of the plasma, and hydrogen and Ar(argon) were used as the bubbler and the carrier gases, respectively. I...
